Solar Energy Directory: This is the Solar Energy and Solar Power directory of All Sites Sorted, and is a subsection of the Renewable Energy Online Directory. Solar Energy is one alternative form of renewable energy. Like Wind Power, Solar Energy is geography dependent – areas of higher solar quotient having a greater solar capacity. Desert areas with low cloud cover levels, and lower latitudes are particularly well suited for solar energy generation.
Among the more popular uses of solar energy and solar power are: harnessing of solar heat, such as for solar pool heating as an alternative to gas or other fossil fuel heating; solar electric generation using solar photovoltaic arrays; power generation in remote areas to run equipment, such as water well pumps; solar-run traffic lights, which are gaining wider acceptance coupled with low power LED bulbs; solar-electric cell transmission spots. Photovoltaics are a technology for converting solar light or radiation to electricity, and can achieve efficiencies of about 15% conversion of the available solar energy to electricity.
